Saving Energy - Green Movement Is An Obstacle To Saving

I agree that saving energy and water is important. But I reject the notion to reduce, reuse and recycle for the sake of the planet. The green movement is solely driven by materialism and image.
Chic and expensive imported bamboo plates all for the low price of $1000? Environmentally and culturally sensitive jewelry? This seemingly endless “save the planet” ad campaign is a complete turn off.
So why should humans bother to save energy and any other resource? To save money and only, and given today's economy, that's reason enough for us to seek to reduce our energy, gas, and water usage especially at home. The problem comes in when it looks like we have to spend money to save money (be it on energy or anything else).
The greater challenge is to find ways to save energy, water, and gas without much up front investment and losing sight of the main focus. It believe it can be done, and the entire “green” movement is nothing more than an obstacle in the way.
