Saving Energy - Forget Annoying Celebrities, Save Because You Have To

I do consider myself to be environmentally concerned most of the times, however at times I am wasteful, and times I conserve only because of the costs. For example, this year during the summer I started turning my air conditioner off, and I went out and purchased two oscillating fans.
I live in Miami, and unfortunately the heat and humidity got to us, and we could not bare it more then 2 days. We ended up turning the air conditioner back on. Now that it’s gotten cooler we will try again.
I think one of the reasons why people are becoming so environmentally concerned is because it's a new fad right now. Annoying celebrities are going on television boasting about how green they are because they bought the newest hybrid car, when they can afford the luxurious V8.
You see paparazzi snaps of celebs shopping with their reusable shopping bags, and every store you shop at now, offers these "green" reusable bags. On the other hand, most of us normal people save energy simply because we have to.
Take my cheap landlord for example. I moved in six months ago, and the first night after I finished pushing boxes and putting things away, all I wanted to do was take a warm shower (yes I like warm showers even in the summer time). Needless to say the landlord was conservative for money reasons because not two minutes passed by before the water in the shower turned to ice, and I came out shaking.
