Saving Energy - Educating The Young is Key

Growing up my generation was never truly educated about saving energy or water or even recycling, the only use I had for cans and bottles was bringing them in to receive money back.
What little I learned about energy conservation growing up was from the cartoon commercials aimed at educating us children on how important it was to turn the tap off while we were brushing our teeth.
As I grew older, I began to pay further attention to the media and the positive effect that saving energy and recycling can have on our environment.
With global warming, we should more aggressively educate our children on the simple things that they can do to help. Myself, I encourage my children to turn off the lights when they leave a room, to recycle anything that can be recycled, to turn off the water when they aren’t using it.
One of my growing concerns is that my generation has the mentality that they cannot make a difference and that taking the time to turn off the tap or flip a light switch or not leave the T.V on won’t make a difference.
The next generations should not adopt such negative thinking’s. I do not want my children growing up in an environment where they suffer from my generation’s lack of awareness. We as a nation need to break the cycle of ignorance and the education of our young will be key.
